Pro Nuclear Or Not?
Recently, a California-based company, Deep Fission, selected the Great Plains Industrial Park in Parsons, Kansas, as the site for a first-of-its-kind underground nuclear reactor project. The proposal, which is part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Reactor Pilot Program, would place a small modular reactor approximately one mile underground with the goal of producing clean, reliable energy while reducing the footprint and construction costs associated with traditional nuclear power plants.
While nuclear energy is among the cleanest and most reliable sources of power available today, this project has generated significant concern throughout Parsons and across District 7. Many residents feel they were not adequately informed before major decisions regarding the project were made, and I share those concerns. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) exists to ensure that nuclear projects meet rigorous safety, environmental, and operational standards. Recent federal actions aimed at accelerating nuclear development have raised concerns among many Americans, particularly in rural communities where these projects may be located.
As your legislator, I would support responsible energy development that balances innovation, economic opportunity, and public safety. Any nuclear project proposed in our region should be held to the highest safety standards and undergo a transparent review process that fully involves local residents. The people of District 7 deserve a seat at the table, access to accurate information, and confidence that their concerns are being heard before decisions of this magnitude are made. I will support nuclear projects that meet strict safety requirements, provide meaningful public transparency, and earn the trust of the communities they affect.
Government Accountability & Oversight
I will work to strengthen legislative oversight of state agencies and contractors by supporting regular performance audits and requiring agencies to demonstrate measurable results for taxpayer-funded programs. I support expanding public access to government records and making state spending information easier for citizens to review. When government programs are not meeting their goals, lawmakers should have the tools to identify problems, demand corrective action, and ensure taxpayer dollars are being used effectively.
Property Tax Relief
I will support legislation that provides meaningful property tax relief while addressing the underlying causes of rising taxes. This includes reviewing unfunded state mandates that increase costs for local governments, supporting homestead protections for primary residences, and examining ways to limit excessive increases in property tax burdens. I will also work to reduce unnecessary regulations that drive up housing and business costs, helping families keep more of their hard-earned money.
Marijuana Legalization
I support the legalization of both medical and recreational marijuana. Marijuana legalization could bring billions into our economy and help provide tax relief in other areas, such as property taxes. Marijuana tax revenue could also help fully fund our public education system in Kansas.
Small Business Support
I will support policies that make it easier for small businesses to start, expand, and create jobs in Kansas. This includes investing in workforce development programs, apprenticeships, career and technical education, and partnerships between employers and educational institutions. I also support reviewing regulations that create unnecessary barriers to business growth, such as excessive permitting delays, duplicative licensing requirements, and outdated rules that increase costs without providing meaningful public benefits. At the same time, I believe regulations that protect public safety, workers, and consumers should remain in place. By improving government efficiency and investing in infrastructure, we can attract new businesses, strengthen local economies, and create opportunities for Kansas families.
The 2nd Amendment
As a firearm owner myself, I strongly support the Second Amendment and the right of law-abiding citizens to own and carry firearms. I believe responsible gun ownership is an important part of our constitutional freedoms and a longstanding tradition for many Kansas families. At the same time, protecting constitutional rights and promoting public safety are not mutually exclusive goals.
I support measures that help keep firearms out of the hands of individuals who pose a clear danger to themselves or others while respecting the rights of responsible gun owners. This includes strengthening background check processes, improving the reporting of disqualifying criminal records, and exploring ways to ensure that serious mental health concerns are properly considered during firearm purchases while protecting due process and medical privacy. Any policy in this area should be carefully crafted to target dangerous individuals
Reproductive Rights & Healthcare
I believe public policy should prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of both mothers and children. That includes ensuring access to quality prenatal care, maternal health services, and the support systems needed for healthy pregnancies when possible. Strengthening these resources can also help reduce avoidable involvement in the foster care system by addressing challenges early and supporting families before a child enters state custody.
I support expanding social services for pregnant women, including access to healthcare, addiction treatment, mental health care, housing assistance, and parenting support. These programs can reduce risks such as neglect, abuse, and substance exposure during pregnancy while improving long-term outcomes for both mothers and children.
I also support making adoption more accessible for qualified, stable families who are prepared to provide safe and loving homes, and reducing unnecessary bureaucratic delays in the adoption process.
At the core of my view is a strong belief in bodily autonomy and constitutional rights. Government should be extremely cautious when passing laws that directly regulate personal medical decisions and individual bodily autonomy. When government overreach expands into these areas, it raises serious concerns about individual liberty and can set precedents that risk broader constitutional protections. I believe rights must be protected consistently, and that weakening fundamental liberties in one area can create openings for erosion of rights in others.
At the end of the day, American women deserve to have a say when it comes to their bodies. The government owes it to Americans to keep their hands off their bodies and to grant us our constitutional rights.
Private School Vouchers
&
Public Education Funding
In rural communities, public education is essential and serves as a cornerstone of long-term economic and community stability. I support fully funding Kansas’s public education system to ensure every student—regardless of zip code—has access to a quality education.
Americans have the right to choose the school that best fits their child’s needs, whether public or private. However, when a family chooses a private school, they should assume the financial responsibility for that decision. I do not support the use of Kansas taxpayer dollars to fund private education through voucher programs or similar systems.
Public schools play a critical role in building a thriving and productive society by educating the vast majority of Kansas students and supporting workforce development, local economies, and community stability. When public schools are properly funded and supported, they strengthen the long-term health of our economy, housing markets, and communities across the state.
